1. Overview and Core Philosophy
Hex MIDI ("we", "our", or "the App") is developed as a professional musical instrument and MIDI controller. We believe that creative work belongs exclusively to the musician. Hex MIDI is designed so that your recordings, musical takes, custom isomorphic layouts, microtonal Scala files, and soundbanks are stored locally on your device and are never uploaded to our servers.
Local Storage Guarantee: We do not operate cloud servers that store your MIDI recordings, custom tuning configurations, or audio synthesis output. Your creative files remain strictly under your control on your device.
2. Information We Collect
Hex MIDI collects minimal information required to ensure application stability, process purchases, and display advertisements for free-tier users:
- Crash & Performance Diagnostics: We use Firebase Crashlytics and Firebase Performance to capture anonymous crash traces, device hardware models, and OS versions to diagnose bugs and improve app responsiveness.
- In-App Purchases: If you purchase Hex MIDI Pro or Remove Ads, transactions are handled securely by Apple App Store (iOS) or Google Play Billing (Android) and validated via RevenueCat. We never receive or store your credit card or financial credentials.
- Local Device Settings: App preferences (such as selected isomorphic layout, EDO scale, metronome BPM, and volume levels) are stored locally in your browser's localStorage or device sandboxed storage.
3. Advertising and Google AdSense / AdMob Disclosures
To provide free access to our isomorphic keyboards and synthesis tools, Hex MIDI displays advertisements to non-Pro users via Google AdMob (on iOS and Android apps) and Google AdSense (on web applications).
Google and its advertising partners use cookies, device identifiers (such as Google Advertising ID or Apple IDFA, subject to user consent), and anonymous usage signals to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites or apps across the internet.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on prior visits to our website or other sites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visits to our sites and/or other sites on the Internet.
- Users may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
- Alternatively, you can opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info.
4. Shared Cooldown Advertising Policy
Hex MIDI employs a strict "Shared Cooldown Controller" for non-Pro users: full-screen interstitial ads are limited to natural milestone transitions (such as saving a completed recording take, exporting a MIDI file, or importing/exporting a layout preset). The app enforces an initial launch grace period (no ads for the first 2 minutes) and a global cooldown of at least 4 minutes between any ads to prevent disruption to your musical playing flow.
5. Hex MIDI Pro (Ad-Free Experience)
Users who purchase Hex MIDI Pro enjoy a 100% ad-free experience. When Pro mode is active, all advertising SDK requests and interstitial ad triggers are permanently bypassed and disabled.
6. Device Permissions
Depending on the features you use, Hex MIDI may request the following permissions:
- Bluetooth: Used strictly to discover and establish low-latency wireless connections with Bluetooth MIDI keyboards and controllers. No location data is collected or tracked.
- Storage / Documents Access: Used exclusively to save exported .mid MIDI files, layout presets, and import user Scala (.scl / .kbm) tuning files.
- Audio / Microphone: Used only for sound synthesis and audio output via Web Audio and SpessaSynth. We never record your room audio or microphone input.
7. GDPR, UK DPA, and European Privacy Rights
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or UK, Hex MIDI presents Google User Messaging Platform (UMP) consent dialogs before loading personalized ads. You have the right to access, rectify, or erase your diagnostic data, and to withdraw consent at any time via the Privacy Settings button in the Hex MIDI Settings panel.
8. California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA)
Under the CCPA, California residents have the right to know what personal data is collected and to request deletion. Hex MIDI does not sell your personal data. Advertising partners may collect device identifiers for interest-based ads as disclosed above.
