Hex MIDI is a professional virtual isomorphic keyboard and MIDI controller designed for musicians, producers, and music theorists. By replacing traditional piano keys with geometric hex grids, chord shapes become invariant and transposable to any key without changing finger patterns.
Hex MIDI features classical and contemporary isomorphic keyboard layouts including Wicki-Hayden, Janko Classic, Janko Vertical, Harmonic Table (Tonnetz), Chromatic Accordion (B-Griff & C-Griff), Harpejji, Bosanquet-Wilson, and custom guitar fourths/violin fifths tunings.
Explore Equal Divisions of the Octave (EDO) microtonal systems including 19-EDO, 22-EDO, 24-EDO, 31-EDO, Bohlen-Pierce (13-EDT), and custom Scala (.scl / .kbm) tuning files with real-time MIDI Tuning Standard (MTS) SysEx and MPE output.

MTS transmits scales via MIDI Tuning Standard SysEx. MPE uses channels 2–16 with per-note pitch bend. 12-TET Remap maps 12-note songs into in-tune microtonal degrees, and folds microtonal songs down to 12 keys when scale sync is off.
Hex MIDI is a professional digital instrument leveraging isomorphic keyboard layouts and microtonal tuning systems. Unlike traditional piano keyboards, Hex MIDI uses consistent geometric grids where musical interval shapes remain identical in every key.
Visualize music theory instantly. Learn one chord shape or scale pattern once and transpose it across all keys without changing finger positions.
Extend physical hand span over two octaves. Seamlessly integrate with DAWs like Ableton, Logic, and Cubase.
Hex MIDI provides 12 built-in isomorphic systems plus a fully customizable layout engine:
Design, save, and switch between your own custom hexagonal (pointy-top or flat-top) and square grid geometries with custom axis tuning intervals.
Explore tuning systems beyond standard 12-tone equal temperament (12-TET):
Built-in support for 19-EDO, 22-EDO, 24-EDO (Quartertone / Maqam), 31-EDO, 41-EDO, 53-EDO, Bohlen-Pierce (13-EDT), 15-EDO, 17-EDO, 5-EDO, 7-EDO, and custom divisions up to 1200 EDO.
Pythagorean, Quarter-comma Meantone, 1/6-comma Meantone, Werckmeister III, Young / Vallotti, Just Intonation (5-limit & 7-limit), Harmonic Series, Arabic Maqam Rast, Indian 22-Sruti, and Slendro / Pelog presets.
